Today, an important component of horticulture in Ukraine is the strengthening of the ecological approach to the development and practical implementation of integrated protection of perennial plantings from the most common pests and pathogens of quarantine and non-quarantine importance, the application of fertilizers and formulations for regulating plant growth.

This requires the creation of chemical compounds, which are both highly effective and low-toxic for the environment, the introduction of new methods and techniques to reduce the harmfulness of the main phytophages and pathogens that affect plant growth and yield formation in the agrobiocenosis of an industrial garden.

In the gardens and berry orchards of Ukraine, more than 300 species of harmful insects and mites, about 100 pathogens of fungal, bacterial and viral diseases have been identified, which weaken the vital activity of cultivated plants in berry and garden plantings during the growing season. An important role in reducing the harmful effects of phytophages and pathogens in the agrobiocenosis of the garden belongs to chemical protection measures.

Among the reasons for the low effectiveness of plant protection treatments against the main harmful objects in berry plantations and orchards are the long-term use of the same formulations, the manifestation of resistance to some groups of chemical compounds, pesticides being outdated, and violations of the technology of their application. Recently, the effectiveness of chemical formulations has significantly decreased, as a result we are dealing with a real threat of the emergence of resistance to pesticides in pests and disease pathogens. This encourages the search for new systems and methods of protecting berry and fruit plantations from harmful species, taking into account the biological features of their development and mechanisms of action.

In this regard, the selection of new growth stimulants in combination with the properties of a fungicide, acaricide and insecticide is an urgent issue of the modern strategy for protecting perennial plantations. DOLINA specialists managed to create the SCLOBICIDE® formulation, which combines the properties of not only an effective growth stimulant, but also protects against diseases and pests. At the same time, the complex of components that is part of it affects positively both yield and quality indicators.

EFFECT OF THE FORMULATION

There are few pesticides in the range that inhibit the development of insects and fungi at low positive temperatures and that can effectively counteract their wintering stages. The ageless classics are used against diseases – Bordeaux mixture (3%), urea (3–5%), iron sulfate (3%), copper sulfate (3–5%, for conifers – 1%), and against a complex of wintering pests – preparations based on mineral oils (2–10%).

But in case of incorrect choice of the preparation for treatment, you can face negative consequences. For example, Bordeaux mixture or copper sulfate solution has a cumulative effect and accumulates in the soil, because copper is a heavy metal. In most EU countries, its use per season is strictly regulated. In addition, if you apply copper as a component that eradicates harmful organisms, you can lose the opportunity to use it as a treatment during the growing season. And to achieve a comprehensive spraying result, it is necessary to use several formulations – insecticides plus fungicides.

The solution to this problem was taken up by the DOLINA company, which created and is actively testing the fungi-, insecto-acaricide SCLOBICIDE®, a unique formulation with a wide spectrum of action.

As a fungicide, it has a protective (prophylactic) effect and a contact effect with a penetrating translaminar effect. The insecticide SCLOBICIDE® destroys pests by contact. It is effective at an average daily temperature above +5°C.

In addition to the listed advantages, the SCLOBICIDE® formulation has low toxicity to warm-blooded animals and high efficiency of the active substance.

It is known that crop losses due to the adverse effects of diseases can range from 40 to 90%. In Ukraine, significant damage to apple trees is caused by scab. The causative agent of the disease affects leaves and fruits. The disease is especially dangerous during rainy years. The source of primary infection is mainly ascospores, which are localized in fallen leaves and which ripen in early spring in fruiting bodies – pseudothecia (the “bud swelling” phase). Mass distribution of ascospores begins after the fallen leaves become wet and during rains and coincides with the “bud opening” phase.

The causative agent of apple scab usually overwinters in the form of teleomorphs on fallen leaves. In some cases, overwintering of the mycelium on affected shoots is possible. Ascospores are the primary source of infection of plants in the spring.

The application of SCLOBICIDE® inhibits the development of fungal spores, thus preventing their reproduction. The principle of action is based on the suppression of diseases at the initial stage due to the transpiration effect of the components and the rapid destruction of pathogens.

Negative factors affecting the plant during the growing season significantly worsen the quality of the yield. Therefore, the application of SCLOBICIDE® is a necessary measure in the case of growing fruit and berry plantations.

To expand the opportunities of combating harmful organisms, eradication spraying is used when pests are at rest. It is carried out at a time when entomophages are immobile and are in wintering places, which increases the likelihood of their defeat.

Yield is a complex indicator of productivity, which includes many factors. Therefore, the fluctuation of each factor undoubtedly affects the final yield value. From the beginning of growth to the moment of harvesting, the plant organism experiences the influence of biotic and abiotic factors, the effect of which can be corrected by using the formulation SCLOBICIDE®. In addition, as a growth stimulant, the formulation affects the rate of ripening of fruits, the process of coloring of which begins much earlier than in plantations where the formulation was not used.

Thus, the application of the new insecto-acaricidal formulation with the functions of a fungicide and growth stimulant ensures a reduction in the pesticide load on fruit and berry plantations by reducing the number of treatments with various chemical formulations during the growing season. In addition, it provides a long-term effect of the components in the process of combating major diseases and pests, which directly affects the increase in yield and quality of the resulting products. The stimulating effect of the active substance allows you to harvest earlier.
